Latency and Bandwidth Requirements for Teams VoIP services

December 15, 2025

Latency Requirements for Teams Telephony Infrastructure.

  • Latency for voice calls is ideal when it is less than 150ms.
  • Call quality is good, if  latency is between 150-300ms, users will notice slower call setup. Ring more times before call is connected.
  • 300-600ms, users will notice lapses in call conversations.
  • >600ms, bad call quality and call issues.

Bandwidth requirements - in summary Teams will prioritize the Audio stream/quality over the Video stream in case the bandwidth is not enough.

  • For PSTN calls we try to use G.711 A-law, (84 kbit/s). This is per direction or audio stream.
  • For Audio Stream the up/downstream requirements per endpoint are from 10/10 KB/s (min) to 76/76 KB/s (best performance)
  • Respectively the values for Video stream are from 150/150 KB/s (min) to 4000/4000 KB/s (best performance).
  • For Screen Sharing Stream values are from 200/200 KB/s (min) to 4000/4000 KB/s (best)
  • Last 3 are more related to general Teams-to-Teams calls.
